NEW COUNCIL APPOINTMENTS

Last night’s (Thursday 16 May) Annual Council meeting saw elections and appointments to key council positions for the year ahead.   

Labour’s Cllr. Kay Dark was elected the new Chairman of the Council along with party colleague Cllr. Harry Scobie as the Vice-Chairman.  

There were no changes to the current Cabinet. 

Chairman of the Council’s watchdog body the Overview & Scrutiny Panel went to Conservative’s Cllr. Jo Gideon with Labour’s Cllr. Mike Harrison as Vice-Chairman. Thanet Independent Group chairs two of the Council’s main committees with Cllr. Jack Cohen named as Chairman of the Planning Committee, along with Vice-Chairman Labour’s Cllr. Peter Campbell and Cllr. John Worrow continuing as Chairman of the Governance & Audit Committee with new Vice-Chairman Labour’s Cllr. Ela Lodge-Pritchard. Labour’s Cllr. Richard Nicolson was named Chairman of the Licensing Board with Vice-Chairman party colleague Cllr. Corinna Huxley.

Leader of the Council, Cllr. Clive Hart, said: “These appointments again show that we are committed to continuing with close cross party working at the Council. This will continue to enable us to build on our recent successes and work together to achieve the best results for Thanet.”
