Young people in Thanet can be noisy for a good reason later this month (April), as Thanet District Council celebrates Noise Action Day.
The council's Environmental Protection Team will be in Asda on Tuesday 27 April between 9.30am and 4.00pm, getting children to shout into a noise monitor as loudly as they can. The loudest will then win a prize.
Last year's winner was nine year old Jack Ralf, who managed to shout at 106.5 decibels, which is the equivalent of a football crowd.
The team will also be handing out information about what people can do if they have a problem with noisy neighbours and will be explaining about the other issues they deal with, including air pollution, high garden hedges and light pollution.
Environmental Protection Manager, Penny Button, said: "Noise Action Day is a fun way to allow us to highlight what can be a serious problem for many people in Thanet. Many people suffer issues with noise, perhaps from nearby businesses or their neighbours and Noise Action Day gives us the chance to highlight the help that's available to them. The council's Environmental Health team can help, not only with noise, but also with other problems that affect people's lives, such as air pollution, pest problems and blocked drains."
