With the chilly conditions down there I bet they won't occupy the Harbour area past the weekend - that's if they last the afternoon! Not quite St. Paul's.
ReplyDeleteStill it will probably be more interesting than Turner has been and if they are going to highlight the cost of the building I would support that, as I can't believe it cost so much for so little and such a boring design. If a bit less had been spent on the building perhaps the remainder could have been put to good use elsewhere.
Not sure which is more pointless, occupy or the Turner...
Deleteit is very easy to be negative about the Turner. The amount of money that was wasted is something most people seem to agree on.
Deletehowever, it is here, and it can only be an asset for margate
Foxtrot Oscar you freeloading parasites
ReplyDeletesee you there
DeleteHA. I have a job and am occupying , so what have you got to say to me?
DeleteWhy Friday?! Weekends FTW
ReplyDeletespoken like someone with no idea of the local issues
ReplyDeleteThis group was started in response to the many 'OCCUPY' protests that are taking place across the world. It was a spontaneous response from a small group of people wanting to voice their support for change. We are told we live in a democracy but know that individuals - alone - have little say in either the way their country - or hometown - is governed. It is people coming together who can ensure their voices are heard. Make YOUR voice heard here for the changes YOU would like to see in this corner of England but don't forget to mention the many positive things that can, and do, take place in Thanet. Everyone who becomes a group member gets admin rights. Feel free to invite your friends and family to join, post your thoughts and photos and CELEBRATE the wonderful community of Thanet which you OCCUPY, whilst arguing for the improvements to make it even better
ReplyDeletestatement from Occupy Thanet
It is the developers, and council that have killed Margate. The cost of the Turner is but one example
ReplyDeletethe whole of the Arlington house block, carparks, and shops is rented for only £7500 a year, its not like its running costs are high
DeleteMargate died MANY years ago! It's a slum that should be bulldozed and begun again!!
ReplyDeleteOccupy, waste of time, energy, oxygen and benefits, i may pop down and laugh at them for a little while though, or is it cruel to laugh at dumb animals who know no better?
The laugh's on us if we allow bankers to get huge bonuses while we struggle to survive!
DeleteYou call people dumb animals who know no better, because they want the place they live in to be run better and to help change the world? Obviously it's you who knows no better, why don't you try and educate yourself about what's actually happening in the world. Maybe we should be laughing at you.
DeleteHere here!!!
DeleteUnfortunately being in Thanet this is the kind of typical bigoted negativity you can expect, im sure they are the same kind of ignoramous's who go around moaning about everything and having an overblown judgemental opinion on everyone else but when it comes to the crunch they are the ones sitting at home on their arses doing nothing whilst the people they are berating on this site are out there trying to change things for the better or at least bring it to the attention of gen public.
DeleteIgonre the imbeciles & Keep up the good work 'Occupy!
Animals are not dumb... they are intelligent sentient beings, you however- clearly have the IQ of an amoeba!
DeleteFRESHWATER! we do not forget, we do not forgive, expect us
ReplyDeleteWe are legion?
DeleteLol, i so easily readily laugh at those who use phrases like ' waste of time' 'freeloaders' wtf do they know? My goodness, if we all took their attitude we would be serfs under a squire who had the right to shag your virgin daughters/girlfriends. Tut tut, go back to watching eastenders and corrie and leave the world to beings with brains in their bonces. Good on u Occupy, when I finish my 36 hour shift today working in the care profession which is severely cut back because of corrupt capitalism, I will come and cheer you on and maybe even bring U a flask of tea.
ReplyDeletebeings with brains... are you sure? Take a look at them... don't think they are the brightest bunch. Still you'll fit in well with that attitude. By the way, 36 hour shift doesn't comply with the working time act :-/
DeleteYet another ignorant person commenting on something they know nothing about. 'Don't think they are the brightest bunch.' I'm sorry, have you spoken to anyone down there? No. You're judging on appearances, which is why people in this town are making it shit. People like you.
DeleteThey are a very bright bunch actually. Went down there yesterday. I'm a teacher, there were nurses there, people who have worked their whole lives and now can't get jobs. I assure you they are a very smart group.
DeleteTypical Thanet, only about a year behind.
ReplyDeleteBETTER LATE THAN NEVER!

DeleteWhy not pitch up outside a bank or building society, that would make more sense.
ReplyDeleteThe current Margate protesters are considering many future options.
DeleteAs a leaderless organisation all decisions are decided by a General Assembly, at present, anyone is welcome to come and have their say, and to be listened to.
Actions are performed by working groups, at present, anyone who was at the GA is welcome to join a WG.
By agreement of the GA, all working groups must use peaceful, lawful means to accomplish its task.
Under section 6 Criminal Law Act 1977 it would be unlawful to enter or cause damage to an empty building for the purposes of occupation.
Working groups have already identified several buildings across Thanet that could quite easily be occupied lawfully, a sad statement of how bad things have really got.
Unfortunately a bank was not on that list.
It is testament to the dedication of the occupying working group, that they are prepared to sleep in tents to bring attention to the state Margate has been allowed to sink to.
Put quite simply, this can only be due to the corruption, or incompetence between the developers and Thanet District Council, and as such, they should lose their jobs.
They do very well out of these little deals, The Royal Sea Bathing, and Arlington house are just 2 examples, while we lose our jobs, and our homes.
Remember, you are only 3 mortgage payments away from needing your own tent.

ReplyDeleteSorry no obscene language
Deletei think its a wonderful idea, gives us the slightest hope that we will be listened to. The turner may have some lovely paintings in there but not millions worth. Art is about expressing your feelings, not spending millions on a fancy building! The Occupy Thanet is great, and i hope it does well!!
ReplyDeleteA lot of people here who are glad to sit on thei behinds moaning about Thanet, whilst at the same time taking the piss out of the people who are actually trying to change something. I feel sorry for you, if you get your information from The Sun, never leave the house and can only offer the world your short sighted, badly researched opinions.
ReplyDeleteWhy isn't John The Campaigner helping them? Or is he all words and no action?
