Whale update

The council now has machinery on site to try and move the whale. We will know in an hour or so whether or not this has been successful and we have back-up plans in place if this does not work.

Whale update - 6.45pm

All attempts to move the whale from the shoreline at Pegwell Bay, Ramsgate have proved to be unsuccessful.

Work has been halted for this evening and will begin again early tomorrow morning to try and remove the whale. We expect the work to take some time, as it is a complicated process.

We are advising people to stay away from the scene, so that the council can continue with its work.

Latest statement – 11.00 am:

Overnight, experts have been dissecting the whale to try and learn more about it. With the high tide now imminent, this work has had to stop.

It is hoped that the dissection will be completed this afternoon, once high tide passes, and work will then start on removing it from Pegwell Bay.

As the tide is coming in, the area is becoming increasingly dangerous for members of the public, so we are advising people to stay away from the scene.

A temporary closure is also in place along the clifftop at Pegwell, as people were getting perilously close to the edge to get a glimpse of the whale.
