WESTWOOD STORE PLANS DISCUSSED

Plans for a new two-storey retail unit at Westwood Cross have been passed to officers to approve, subject to a legal agreement being put in place.

The application, for a non-food store, totalling 6,500 square metres split over two floors, was considered last night (Wednesday 16 March) by the council’s Planning Committee.

They agreed that officers should give it the go-ahead, provided the developer enters into a legal agreement. This would include a contribution towards transport improvements in the Westwood area.

The plans will see the new store being built next door to TK Maxx, partially on land previously used by Grupo Antolin. As part of the application, 137 parking spaces, eight of them for the disabled, will be provided, along with a new access to the car park from the existing junction of Antolin Way and Westwood Cross.

The applicants will now have to submit a Travel Plan, showing how they will reduce car journeys to the site. Improved signage and information boards will also be introduced, as part of the development, so more drivers will use Antolin Way as an entrance into and exit from Westwood Cross. The aim is also to encourage people to use alternative car parks around Westwood and to walk between different parts of the site.
