Arrival of Historic ship into Ramsgate

In 1997, a ship named ‘Matthew’ sailed from Bristol to Newfoundland to re-enact the journey of John Cabot in 1497, when he found north America. – Columbus found the Caribbean, not mainland America. The journey was presented as a seven part documentary series on BBC1 with Peter Snow.

On Monday, 14th March, the ‘Matthew will be moored in Ramsgate until Saturday 19th. The ship will be moored on the west side of the lock gate, by the Harbour Office at the lock gate.

Reason for visit

The ‘Matthew will be transformed into the Narnia Ship “Dawn Treader”

The ‘Matthew was recently used in the film “Narnia, the Dawn Treader”, as the ship ‘Dawn Treader’.

On Thursday 17th, two 40’ trucks and a crane will arrive approx 8am, with the additions to convert the ship to Dawn Treader. Craning and rigging will take all day. At approx 3pm the ship should be fully kitted out.

On Saturday morning the ship leaves for London to be the centre-piece of the launch of the DVD of the film on Monday 21st March..
