Over the last year, a total of 11 shelters have been refurbished and redecorated at Dumpton Gap, Victoria Gardens, Botany Bay, Palm Bay, Westbrook, Westgate and Minnis Bay.
The work undertaken by the Foreshore Maintenance Team has ranged from minor repairs to a complete rebuild.
In some cases, the wooden structure has had to be removed and replaced by new timber, because the existing wood was rotten. In other cases, the work has centred more on maintenance, with some graffiti removal also carried out.
Cllr. Martin Wise, Cabinet Member for Environmental Services, said: “The work the team have done over the last year has made a real difference that everyone can see. They’ve had to deal with the worst that the winter had to throw at them, including freezing cold weather and snow. Bearing that in mind, I think they’ve produced some excellent quality work in difficult conditions. I’m sure that both residents and visitors will appreciate the improvements to our seafront shelters.”
It look simply better than before, thanks to those who give time to renovate and give it a more nice look.
