Figures published by the Office of National Statistics show that there are 94,103 people registered to vote in Thanet.
But residents are being warned that they need to act now if they are to have their say at the District and Town/Parish Council elections and UK referendum on the voting system to the UK Parliament, all of which take place on Thursday 5 May.
Richard Samuel, Electoral Registration Officer, warns: ”Anyone who has moved house in the past few months needs to register with their new address and we know there are people who have not yet registered to vote, which means they will be missing out unless they take action.”
Residents can request a registration form by calling Electoral Services on (01843) 577500 or by printing off a registration form from www.aboutmyvote.co.uk
Phillippa Saray from the Electoral Commission, the independent elections watchdog, adds: “Residents may also be planning to be away on Thursday 5 May, given the extra Bank Holiday for the Royal Wedding the week before. So it’s worth applying now to vote by post or proxy if that will suit your plans. You can print off the forms from www.aboutmyvote.co.uk It just takes a few minutes, and then you are all set for 5 May.”
Completed forms need to be sent into the Electoral Registration Officer, Thanet District Council, PO Box 9, Cecil Street, Margate, CT9 1XZ.
