FILM MAKER SEEKS CRYING WOMAN WHO SAW HER MUM ON FILM

A Thanet film-maker is searching for a woman who burst into tears when she saw her mum on film.

Following a screening in the Granville Cinema in Ramsgate, Christine Tongue, maker of “Thanet On Film”, was approached by one of the cinema staff who told her about the incident.

“Apparently a woman in the audience recognised her mother in some footage of Ramsgate in the 1950s,” Christine said. “And she was so moved she began to cry. We’re not sure whether she stayed to see the rest of the film.”

Now Christine wants to find out who the woman is so she can send her a DVD of the film, which looks at the past, present and future of Thanet.

“Just to be sitting there and watching a film, and suddenly to see your mum on the screen – it must have been quite a shock,” Christine said.

“I hope if we can get in touch with her we can send her the film and that will be a memento for her,” Christine added.

Meanwhile additional screenings of the “Thanet On Film” have been organised to meet popular demand.

“We hadn’t been intending to show the film again, but the previous screenings sold out, so we just want to make sure that everyone who wants to see it has the chance,” Christine said.

There will be afternoon screenings of the Ramsgate version of the film in the Granville Cinema at 2.30pm on Monday 21st and 2.30pm on Tuesday 22nd March and one evening performance at 7.30pm on Thursday 31st March. To book, ring the Granville on 01843 591750.

In addition there will be a special showing of the Margate version of the film at the Ursuline College, Westgate-on-Sea, on Wednesday 30th March at 7pm. This will be open to the public but booking is advisable, telephone 01843 834431

  1. I found her! And I've sent her a film. She saw herself and her mother on a float in Ramsgate Carnival in 1958. I was thrilled to find her - these films are Thanet's history and it's been a real pleasure to show them to so many people who love this area as much as I do.
