Southeast Airshow Press Release

All parties recognise the problems that people faced travelling by vehicle to the South East Airshow and apologise to those who experienced long delays and were unable to attend the event.

There will be a full debrief with all parties and once we have collated all the feedback, we will be able to make a more detailed statement.

We would ask for people to email their views and their personal experiences to enquiry@heritage-events.co.uk  so we can respond appropriately to each person individually.

    The traffic plan needs looking at for the future, but please ignore the whiners, they are a usual collection of nimbys that if they found £10 would whine that TDC should have ensured in was £20!

  3. Attended, thoroughly enjoyed it and had no traffic problems travelling from Broadstairs by car. The problems seemed to be mainly on the roads leading into Thanet. Great show, awesome to see a Vulcan take off again and good to see so many people enjoying a day out. Don't let the Thanet whinge fraternity, typified by the nameless wonder above, put you off staging this great event again.

    3. Anon 17:34 & 17:42, I did comment on the tailbacks for those travelling into Thanet, but that is not uncommon for major events anywhere. Try the Kent Show at Detling or the War & Peace Show at the Hop Farm, for both you need to leave really early if you do not want to be stuck waiting to get into a park for hours.

      As you well know I am a Broadstairs Town Councillor and the so called 0% salaries issue is a district matter well pre-dating my commencement of office. If raised with me by someone resident in my ward I would look into it, but, otherwise, it is nothing to do with me.

      The geriatrics comment is unnecessary, impolite and typical of your idea of discussing an issue. Email me if you want to take this exchange further.

    4. William, the Airshow isn't of the scale of the Kent Show (and it's motorway almost all the way) - and the tickets were prebooked so the organisers must have known of likely problems. So much so they're offering refunds. Chaos sounds about right.

      We know you're BTC but standing in the Tory party so must liaise with both organisations otherwise what do you do? Can you find out on the 0% salaries as it seems blatant fraud of public funds (Broadstairs residents contribute to TDC tax funds). You seem to be avoiding the issue for party reasons.

      Geriatric seems accurate in your case and no more impolite than you describing the public as whingers for a chaotic airshow.

    5. Anon, the 0% salaries issue, which only you ever seem to raise, predates my time and is outside the remit of the BTC. If, as I have already told, it was raised with me by one of the residents of my own ward, I would endeavour to investigate through TDC contacts. I am not prepared to do that though with an unknown person on an open forum like this. I merely entered this thread to state my findings of the airshow and I do not deny other people had problems. Had you attended the airshow you would have seen there were just as many people queuing at the paying entrance as at the pre-pay. How were the organisers supposed to know about them. It was a first year and attendance well exceeded expectation.

      Again you resort to the term geriatric which is totally unnecessary and does not exactly encourage one to take you seriously. We all age but we are not all senile. As to mine about whingers, that is not the public at large, most of whom are not, just this sadly negative element we seem to have locally who are never happy with anything and routinely oppose everything.

    6. Cllr Epps as before you're wriggling. Your salary and TDC 0% salaries are funded by Broadstairs residents and businesses. Clearly corruption is a serious problem in TDC. Please advise as a councillor and Tory party member how you can raise this? It's a serious issue and suitable for debate in an open forum as is the airshow.

      Was the airshow funded from public funds?

      The amateurishness of the airshow has been covered (although apparently some of the claimed aircraft were not even there?) as have your other points.

    7. Far from wriggling I have told you I am more than prepared to investigate this from someone entitled to approach me within my own ward and council area. You are not and I do not even know your name, I have, however, suggested you might email me. Alternatively approach your own ward district councillor if you really want to know rather than just trying to hint at wrong doing on a public site.

      From my experiences here I can quite see why so few councillors choose to comment through blogsites as it would seem they just open themselves up to inappropriate approaches and insults.

      I have told you the courses open to you and shall not respond to you in this format again.

    8. William the issue is explained here senior officers as a team got less, individuals got more.

      Over the past four years 0% has spammed this issue over all the local blogs, to the point were few councillors are prepared to comment, I think this individual is on some sort of drive to try and stop councillors from communicating wiht the people who elected them.

    10. It seems very much like wriggling William - although I'd agree councillors are appalling at replying to emails, phone calls etc etc - so you're to be congratulated for blogging.

      Although of course you've said and done nothing here on the 0% corruption. Michael's reference to the Moores confirmation of 0% salaries is correct. And that was the public statement by TDC at the time.

      Although the 0% payrises weren't the publicly stated 0% but 15% or more. Next Michael will be telling us there is no pollution and you'll be telling us that the Airshow wasn't chaotic.

      For a councillor feeling unable to raise the 0% fraud seems idle at best or just wriggling. Why not ask - or ask one of your TDC colleagues that sit on BTC - for the before and after payslips and clear this up?

    11. Who is the we, 12:45. I have already told you to approach your own district councillor. If you did formally approach me and live outside my ward I would have to refer to that councillor anyway, under normal protocol, so you might as well go direct.

    12. William the we is the public. We are tired of councillors who don't reply to problems or like yourself here respond by saying and doing nothing. What is the point of funding you? You're simply irrelevant. You have been notified several times now of the 0% corruption. How will you raise it either within BTC or TDC or your party? Perhaps the civil servants run things instead of our elected councillors and we should elect them?

      Don't bother on the pollution or the airshow I'll ask someone else.

    13. Anon, I have probably far more contact with the public through my duties than you so why do you claim to represent their views more than I. I have already told you that I am more than happy to respond to queries through proper channels, but I will not engage on an open site with an anonymous on an issue well predating my term of office.

      Glad to see you are taking my advice about contacting somebody else, preferably your own ward district councillor directly rather than through a blogsite.

I'll take your word for it William but your public duties are meaningless if its simply shaking hands and drinking tea and biscuits and doing nothing, as you essentially seem to be doing here on the 0% salary corruption issue. While proper channels sounds pompous when we're discussing on this blog TDC corruption. What will you do?

    15. Numerous requests from people covering a range of issues from local to national is what I was referring to, Anon. Not big time on the social side other than where it might help promote Broadstairs town events.

      This thread was about the airshow, not TDC corruption, but I suspect you do not really want answers. You simply want to perpetuate these pet gripes of yours forever in these blogsites where you feel you might influence others.

      I think the point is more, what will you do. I have advised you how to seek the answers you want so back to you.

    16. William the 0% salary fraud was raised as you'd ignored it form a couple of weeks ago when asked. And as with the Airshow it illustrates the incompetence of TDC.

      Answers are required. How can you obtain them as the elected representative? You're paid on that basis. Bouncing my own enquiry back to me only highlights what seems to be your irrelevance. How will you raise the 0% fraud now you know of it?

    17. Anon, for the record I receive an allowance as a Broadstairs councillor of £444 per year, and no other expenses, to attend about 40 meetings including committees and other town bodies. Somewhat less than the minimum wage. Answering questions from people outside my ward or area of responsibility who will not even give their name is not part of the brief. On the other hand, you will not find anybody who has contacted me by phone, letter, email or even in the street, who has not had an answer to their query or problem.

    18. William, Aquiffer man is well known on these blogs, and I suspect is even more disliked than I am! You have wasted enough time on him mate. He has banged on on the pathetic "0% wage rise" BS for as long as I've been on the blogs.

      Most of us simply ridicule him, and as you don;t have that kind of freedom, i would suggest your best bet is to simply ignore him in future. Engaging with him is as likely to yeald results as herding cats or pushing jelly uphill!

    20. Well done on the salary William. Not much I agree but it mounts up if you do nothing as here with the 0% salaries. As detailed before this corruption affects all TDC taxpayers even in Broadstairs. What else are you refusing to even raise? Instead of these blog wriggles you could have done something by now. I presume these don't come out of your allowance?

      But as an insurer you must be able to advise on the likely policy Infratil holds for contamination? Or buildings and health insurance for breaches of the airport guidelines? Otherwise do be quiet or advise on what you know of how the cleanup is going.

Presumably the policy would be invalid and any contaminated would need to claim off say Infratil or Thor?     42. Here is Rude Insurance again. Nothing to say on pollution or their insurance expertise. You're absolutely right without banking (!) where would we be and insurance to insure the things we've not bought from the insurance industry. Most definitely a door to door salesman bigging themselves up. What insurance policies would you sell - or manage the selling process if we are to believe you - for the people around the Thor factory?

  4. Just to add a little perspective, here are some comments re another airshow that has been held for decades, and is one of the best organised and busiest in Europe.

    "I've seen very little Russian stuff, bu I agree, that would be great. The Hind was at RIAT two years back, but I was stuck in bloody traffic at the time"

    "First the traffic control to get people in was terrible, queues for 8 miles. Now I know these shows are popular, but so do the organisers, why do they not sort out better ways of moving people in by using Park & Ride etc, or one way systems like the Royal Show does. Poor Poor Poor in my view.

    I was also unlucky as we booked tickets in the Pimms Flightdeck enclosure, this was at one end of the runway and litterally no one ‘displayed’ to us, they were all concentrating in the middle. The catering was useless too £12.50 for a burger with queues of 100 yds. We did not bother TERRIBLE enclosure"

    "The traffic is always bad but was worse than usual this year - at the time I left I would have normally been on site well before the flying but this year arrived about 45 minutes after flying had started"

    I have NEVER got into Fairford Airshow with less than 2 hrs in the queue if arriving anything after 5am-6am. Getting out can take even LONGER, and if it rains, well, you can end up in the car parks overnight!

    Well done to the organisers of Manston, you did REALLY well, and I look forward to coming next year! :)
