STREET SOCCER TOURNAMENT COMES TO RAMSGATE

One of the UK’s biggest street soccer tournaments is coming to Ramsgate later this month (April).

Run by StreetWise Soccer, the National Street Soccer Showdown 2011 or NSSS 2011 gives children and young adults around the country a unique opportunity to play at Wembley. Regional qualifiers are taking place around the UK, with the south east one taking place on Friday 15 April at the Warre Recreation Ground behind Ramsgate Swimming Pool between 12pm and 6pm.

The event, which is aimed at both boys and girls, aged 10 to 18 years, is being run in partnership with Thanet District Council’s Sport 4 NRG and will be packed with explosive, fast paced 3 vs. 3 street soccer competitions. The winners will then progress to the NSSS Wembley Grand Final, which will be held in July.

Freestyle football workshops and tutorials will be held throughout the day from an expert street soccer team, including UK street soccer champion Sean Thompson, who’s appeared on Soccer AM’s Skill Skool. Individuals can show off their talents in street soccer skill battles, all accompanied by urban music.

James Gregory from Sport 4 NRG said: “This is your chance to come along and show off your street soccer skills, which could win you a once in a lifetime place at a Wembley final. By hosting this regional final, Sport 4 NRG is giving you a great opportunity right on your doorstep to get involved with the UK’s biggest street soccer tournament.”

If you want to enter a team, you need to contact James on 07770 828 582 or by e-mailing james.gregory@thanet.gov.uk  There will be limited places available on the day.

Sport 4 NRG is the council’s free diversionary sports project that keeps young people active, off the streets and out of trouble. To find out more details of Sport 4 NRG's weekly timetable, visit www.thanet.gov.uk/sport
