That’s the date of the upcoming elections for district council and town and parish council elections, as well as the chance to have your say on the future of the voting system to the UK Parliament.
All district, town and parish councillors in Thanet will be up for election, with your vote deciding who serves on each organisation for the next four years. Additionally, on Thursday 5 May, you can also take part in the Alternative Vote referendum.
Richard Samuel, Electoral Registration Officer, is encouraging everyone to get involved and have their say through the ballot box. “The decisions made by the councillors who are up for election impact on everyone’s daily lives. These councils are responsible for things such as waste and recycling collections, making planning decisions, looking after leisure facilities and the area’s parks and beaches. Everyone should have received their polling cards by now, so should know where their local polling stations are. It only takes a few minutes to have your say on decisions that will affect your area over the next few years. We want to see as many people as possible getting involved on Thursday 5 May.”
