Families are being invited to discover the magic of cricket at an event organised by Thanet District Council’s Sport 4 NRG.
Taking place on Friday 17 August, ‘Just Play Cricket’ is designed to whet the sporting appetite of budding players of all ages. All the action will take place at Margate Cricket Club’s Hartsdown Road ground, with free coaching on offer to all who turn up. Gender is no bar, with both boys and girls of five years of age or older welcome to come along with their parents or guardians. All aspects of the game will be covered on the day, including fielding, batting and bowling, and coaches from an array of local cricket clubs will be on hand to impart their expertise. And there will be plenty of inspiration in the clubhouse, with the television broadcasting a live cricket Test match between England and South Africa at Lords. Free food will also be on offer to those who feel peckish after exerting themselves during their day of sport. The council’s Cabinet Member for Community Services, Cllr Iris Johnston, said: “With the nation gripped by the excitement of the Olympics, it’s easy to overlook cricket, which is one of the country’s most popular games. “I’m sure that many young people and their families will enjoy the ‘Just Play Cricket’ day and discover many hidden talents.” She added: “Sport has so much to offer, and that’s why the council remains committed to encouraging everyone to get involved and stay involved.” Kwik Cricket equipment will be used on the Just Play Cricket day, enabling those who are new to the game to master its techniques with confidence. Just Play Cricket will take place at Margate Cricket Club on Friday 17 August from 11am to 3pm. There is no need to book, and interested players can just turn up. Parents or guardians wishing to find out more about Just Play Cricket can call Sport 4 NRG’s James Gregory on 07770 828 582. |
