OLYMPIC FEVER GRIPPING CLIFTONVILLE WILL BE SHARED ACROSS THE ISLAND

Cliftonville will be the scene of a huge street party to celebrate the Olympic Torch Relay on Thursday 19th July.

A steel band, a folk band and a rock group will provide live music throughout the event in Northdown Road and Milo the children’s entertainer and the SureStart Bear will also be greeting the crowds.

To start proceedings Thanet District Council Chairman Cllr Doug Clark will be walking the street to present prizes for the best dressed shops.

Cliftonville West Ward Councillor Linda Aldred said “this will be a great day for Cliftonville. Northdown Road cuts right across the centre of our ward and no-one living in Cliftonville will be more than a couple of hundred yards from the Olympic Torch Relay and all the festivities”.

TDC Leader Cllr Clive Hart who is also a Cliftonville Ward councillor, said “I’m delighted that any residents who are unable to attend the event on the day will be able to sample the atmosphere of the Olympic Torch Relay as it will also be broadcast across Thanet live from Northdown Road by Academy FM”

Pamela Pople the Cliftonville Partnership Co-ordinator said “the Olympic Torch Relay is due in Northdown Road at around mid-day and our celebrations will get under way at least an hour before that. They will also carry on in Dalby Square after the relay, where SureStart will be providing further community activities for families”.
