Thanet’s Visitor Information team will be going through to national awards, after picking up silver in Tourism South East’s Beautiful South Awards for Excellence 2011.
They took the silver award in the tourist information service of the year category and will now go forward to the Visit England Awards for Excellence 2012. It’s the third year in a row that the team has been shortlisted for the tourist information award and the second year that they’ve been awarded a silver. However, it’s the first time that they will be put forward to the national awards.
The team were also highly commended in the outstanding customer service category, where they were up against a wide range of organisations, including Beaulieu in Hampshire, home to the national motor museum, hotels in Berkshire and Dorset and a food and wine shop in Buckinghamshire.
Cllr. Alasdair Bruce, Cabinet Member for Partnerships and Tourism, said: “I’m delighted for the team, and I think it’s great recognition for their hard work. The fact that they’re consistently being shortlisted for these awards and that they managed to beat off stiff competition to take a silver award shows just what a great team we have and what a wonderful job they do of promoting Thanet. I wish them all the best at the national awards and let’s hope for more success there.”
