Thanet’s Visitor Information Service is opening its centre at The Droit House in Margate on Sundays throughout the rest of November on a trial basis.
It comes after one of the most successful summers ever for the team, which saw increased visitor numbers throughout the season. In August, the centre welcomed 11,887 people, an increase of 93% on the same time a year earlier.
The Centre will be open every Sunday during November from 11:00am to 4:00pm, with plans to open on Sundays from the end of January, to coincide with Turner Contemporary's new blockbuster exhibition 'Turner and the Elements', starting on Saturday 28 January 2012. If successful, Sunday opening may also continue into early December. If this happens, the council will update people via the council website and anyone who phones or visits the centre will also be updated.
Cllr. Alasdair Bruce, Cabinet Member for Partnerships and Tourism, said: “We listen to feedback from our visitors and attraction providers and that’s why we’re trialing the Sunday openings on selected dates throughout the winter season. Already this year, we’ve had an amazing season, with visitor numbers vastly boosted by the opening of Turner Contemporary. The weather has been exceptionally kind to us as well, helping to extend the season well into October.”
