The Conservative European Referendum Bill - show support!

I, along with my Conservative colleagues, are very pleased to be co-sponsoring and fully supporting the Conservative European Referendum Bill, which will allow the British people to decide whether they believe the UK should be a member of the EU or not.

The vast majority of the British people have never had a say on EU membership. For such a significant matter, this cannot be right so I am extremely proud to be a member of a Party that is giving you a say on Europe.

As a former Chairman of openDemocracy I have been very involved with advocating referenda. I have always sought to ensure that the people have a voice and that their views are respected; a referendum on Britain’s membership of the EU would allow the public’s views to be heard and acted upon.

The Conservatives also plan to significantly change our current arrangements with Europe. Quite frankly, the status quo could not continue. The Labour Party was too quick to surrender parts of our rebate and always too slow to stand up for British interests in Brussels.

We are already reversing this legacy. The Prime Minister has already
·         been the first Prime Minister to veto an EU resolution
·         secured the first ever reduction in the EU budget
·         achieved fundamental reforms to the fishing policy, ensuring an end to discards for Thanet’s fisherman.
We are going further and opening negotiations in order to roll back areas of European influence that have been left unchecked for too long. David Cameron will create a new European settlement that will be less focused on red tape and unnecessary bureaucracy, and more on trade, investment and jobs for Britain. It is this new relationship with the EU that the Conservatives will ask the country to accept or reject in a popular vote.

I hope that this assures you that this Government and I are committed to giving the public the opportunity to voice their opinion on our membership of the EU. If you have any questions about this very important matter, please do not hesitate to be in touch.
Do Pass this onto friends and see if they support the referendum bill!

  1. Dull. And of no relevance in a recession. When will Sandys speak up on the TDC corruption?

    1. Dullard - we're not in recession and what proof of TDC corruption do you have? Go to the police if you have something....

    2. You must try harder councillor or party fanatic. No corruption at TDC? Where have you been these last few years? Labour's £25k Chinagate, Tory and Labour Pleasurama, Tory Leader jailed with glowing references from Tory MP's and councillors, UKIP and KCC silence on monitors?

      And Ferrygate and 0% Moores?

The TDC accounts are open for audit and whitewash so you can ask for contracts etc.

And we're not in a recession you say? We should listen to you more often Anondullard.

    3. Apart from the conviction of the former TDC leader, all you have come up with are allegations and zero proof. On the recession bit, we are only in recession when in negative growth which we are not. By the way, which party fanatic would that be for your allegations seem to embrace all councillors, all officers and every administration from years back.

As for me, well I am not actually for any party but I am really anti idiots like you that just criticise and insult without any substance to their case. You serve no useful purpose and, if there were corruption, do not actually help solve it for you reduce it to mindless name calling thus destroying sensible debate.

    4. You are joking. What do you mean "apart from the jailing of the former Leader"??!! it was for corruption wasn't it?

And namecalling but you call me an idiot? And no recession - what has the last 5 years been? And forecasts for another 20 years?

The 0% fraud for example is publicly detailed with no payrises then secret payrises by Moores. Which part of that is in doubt? Or Ferrygate? Or the Manston pollution?

Certainly we have silent MP's and councillors though.

    5. 10:49, you clearly have no understanding of what constitutes recession which is when there is no growth in a nation's economy. All the things you quote do not necessarily amount to corruption, but if you have evidence that they do, why have you not gone to the police with it?

On the name calling, I referred to you as an idiot because every comment you make proves the point whereas you are constantly accusing councillors and officers of corruption with no proof whatsoever.

  2. Anon 00:29, so you are saying that the charges against Sandy Ezekiel were trumped up?

    1. Why do you waste your time on blogs when you won't or can't even read them properly - he/she said that 'apart from the jailing of the former leader'. What is it that is hard to understand about pointing out that where wrong has been proved to have been done it needs to be punished and where there is just accusation with no proof of anything it is meaningless and just mud throwing. If you can't keep up, stick to the Beano.

    2. Thanks, can I borrow your copy, 14:50, when you have finished looking at the pictures?

  3. 10:49 isn't worth bothering with a reply. 08:03 yes to some extent and certainly an 18 months jail sentence is a disgrace. He should be released as soon as possible on a tag/parole or whatever - and councillors should be speaking up and supporting him and his family. 18 months is a disgrace.

  4. "Quit, you are ruining the town": best Gazette headline ever. A bit harsh on Alan or Pleasurama alone - as he's acting on orders - but a fitting epitaph for The Duffers and every policy/project they've been involved with.

Utter incompetence and corruption: every house and business should display the front page in their window.

    1. Actually the headline in the Gazette says "Quit, you are ruining town". Presumably they didn't use the word "the" so that it appeals to the campaigners down from Yorkshire, though to make it even more authentic they perhaps should've used "Quit, you are ruining t' town"!

    2. Ee oop, bah gum, I think you are right, Peter. Who could they possibly mean?

  5. "Quit you are ruining the town" is still the best Gazette headline ever. The Duffers have failed. Only the MonitorGate fraud at Manston remains and the 0% civil servant payoffs to hide. Caerphilly Council's CE and Deputy were jailed over similar salary frauds.

    1. When did the Gazette use that headline? As I've pointed out (above), not this week.

    2. It really doesn't matter to 17:40, Peter, he just makes it up as he goes along. He also suffers high levels of confusion particularly now trying to compare the Caerphilly Council case with things he thinks constitute fraud in Thanet. Never occurs to him that if there was fraud over Chinagate or historic TDC staff salaries the police would have been involved long ago.
