On the road to give you recycling news

Thanet District Council will be out and about this summer hosting road shows to give residents information on the ‘Let’s Sort It Out, Together’ improved recycling service.
The first will be held on Friday 26th July at Sainsbury’s Supermarket, Margate Road, Broadstairs and throughout every week until the end of October. Road shows will be held across the district in Ramsgate, Margate, Broadstairs and Birchington every week until the end of October. Details are available online onwww.thanet.gov.uk/recycle4thanet
The improvements to the recycling service are part of a project involving the East Kent Partnership (Dover, Shepway, Canterbury and Thanet Councils) to save money collectively as part of Kent County Council’s commitment to increase recycling across the county.
Residents will be encouraged to use different containers to separate and recycle much more of their household waste resulting in less waste sent to landfill.
The road shows will be held at busy locations so residents can have the opportunity to speak with the Recycling and Waste Team, ask any questions they may have and see the new containers. The team will also welcome valuable feedback on the improved service.
Leaflets are being delivered to every home in Thanet in July, letting people know when the improvements will happen and what they will be. Pictures will show clearly what recycling bins, bags or boxes they will have and exactly what to put in them. Copies of this leaflet will also be available at the road shows.
Cabinet Member for Operational Services, Cllr. Alan Poole said: “We hope that by hosting the road shows, people in Thanet will come along and find out about the improvements, how they will affect them and how they can recycle more.
“We know it may be confusing at first but the benefits of increasing our recycling across Thanet are significant both for the environment and for the taxpayer. We hope that the information we are sending out and having staff from our Recycling and Waste Team available to speak to at road shows will help to clarify anything residents are unsure of.”
