Visitors to Thanet’s main seaside towns will now be greeted with illustrated teaser boards telling tales and discoveries of the area’s rich past and heritage. Launched today (Friday 16 March), the eighteen visual graphic boards, known as ‘Town Teasers’, have been placed in shops, bars, cafes and restaurants windows around Margate, Broadstairs and Ramsgate. Thanet Teasers will also appear on coasters in bars and cafes around the Isle. Each teaser board features a quirky fact or story relevant to the particular town it has been placed in and gives both visitors and residents an insight into events from the past, whilst raising their curiosity enough to make them want to find out more. This can be done by visiting the places mentioned by using the postcode or by scanning the QR code on a smart phone, which links to Visit Thanet’s website and further information on the area. Clues will also be given to more locations of the Town Teaser boards, encouraging visitors to move around Thanet’s towns and seek out each teaser board. Cllr Iris Johnston, Cabinet Member for Tourism, said: “The Town Teasers look fantastic and they each tell a fascinating story about the area’s history for both visitors and residents. “They also encourage people to move around the towns in order to seek out the next story in the series. We hope many people will share stories they may have about the area and its history. ” An interactive display about the Town Teasers will be located at the Visitor Information Centre at The Droit House, Margate. The Town Teasers boards have been developed and designed by local design agency HKD, and its owner, Kate Kneale, thought of the idea after moving down her studio to Margate from London and talking to people about the history of the area. She said: “We wanted to help people get out and about and discover the areas hidden gems and encourage people to share their knowledge of the local area.” The Thanet Teasers are being hosted by a number of shops and venues across Thanet including; Harbour Café; Weatherspoons; Arrowsmiths; The Charles Dickens; Eddie Gilberts and The Oak Hotel. Thanet Tourism are still searching for other interesting and unusual teaser tales, so if you have something suitable relating to the three resorts or villages that you would like to put forward, email townteasers@thanet.gov.uk For more information visit www.visitthanet.co.uk
