Businesses in Thanet are being offered free online tourism training
until the end of April, as part of English Tourism Week (Monday 12 to
Sunday 18 March).
The online training game, 'Welcome to Kent Online’, was launched to
help businesses in the tourism, leisure and hospitality industries
acquire new Kent product knowledge, as well as improving their customer
service skills to ensure visitors would experience a welcoming visit to
Kent.
Designed by Visit Kent, the online training game allows participants to
walk, jog or run around the county to answer questions and pick up
useful customer service skills, as well as useful information about
Kent.
Taking approximately 45 minutes to complete, the game allows
participants to save their scores so they can return and play again to
beat their first score. As well as featuring top tips about Kent, the
game features commentary from Olympic Minister, Hugh Robertson and World
Garden creator, Tom Hart Dyke of Lullingstone Castle.
Cllr. Iris Johnson, Cabinet Member for Tourism for Thanet District
Council and Thanet champion for the online training programme, said:
“I would really like to see all of our businesses participate in
this, particularly those working in the tourism industry.
“The online training game will be promoted in our next staff
development training session and we will also encourage our 50 Thanet
Visitor Ambassadors to take part and test their knowledge of the area.
“We will also be linking the Welcome to Kent Online training to our
Pride in Thanet Awards, which will recognise those who have shown
commitment and taken part in the training.
“The Awards which were originally introduced to highlight the
importance of good customer care, especially in the run up to the
Olympics this year, will take place at the end of this year as a thank
you to everyone that has given excellent customer care.”
Businesses can obtain their online training for free until 30 April by
