Ramsgate needs your help!

You may be aware that there is a project to reopen part of Ramsgate’s Deep Shelter Tunnel system which was constructed in 1939 to provide shelter for residents during frequent attacks from German aircraft, ships and shore based guns. The tunnels extend for more than 3 miles under the town and have been abandoned since 1945. It’s impossible to know how many lives were saved by these tunnels but they are a unique and important part of Ramsgate’s history.

The Ramsgate Tunnels Group has embarked on a project to reopen part of the tunnel system with a view to developing it as an all weather attraction. This project is still in its early days but as it moves forward public support is crucial to its success.

We would like to invite you to join the Friends of Ramsgate Tunnels and add to the weight of numbers that will be crucial when moving the project forward. As a Friend you will be among the first to know of any developments, and you will be more than welcome to make any comments or suggestions on the way forward. There is no cost or obligation involved and your details will not be disclosed to anyone. All we require from you is that you register your support for the project by becoming a Friend.

There are two ways to become a member. You can reply to this email or you can register through the website at www.ramsgatetunnels.org  where you will find a very simple sign up procedure.

Thank you in anticipation of your support, and please continue to enjoy the Forum and Ramsgate History Website.
