CREMATORIUM TEAM PRESENTED WITH AWARD

Thanet’s crematorium team has signed up to a nationwide charter that aims to ensure that those who lose loved ones receive the highest standards of care.

The team have been presented with a silver award in the Charter for the Bereaved assessment process for both the crematorium and cemetery services. This is awarded by the Institute of Cemetery and Crematorium Management.

To qualify, the team had to demonstrate that they met the 33 basic rights associated with funerals, as set out in the Charter. It aims to educate people about bereavement and clarify the roles and responsibilities of those involved. The Charter also sets out the standards of service that people can expect, such as the maintenance of the grounds, the choice of graves and memorials and arrangements for funerals.

Crematorium and Cemeteries Officer and Registrar, Simon Woodgate, said: “This Charter gives anyone in Thanet who suffers a bereavement the reassurance that they will receive the best possible support from the cemeteries and crematorium team. It allows them to understand what they can expect from us. The Charter also gives us targets, so that we can ensure that we are continually improving the service that we give people.”
