NEW FILM SPOTLIGHTS SCANDAL OF RAMSGATE SEAFRONT

A special Ramsgate edition of the phenomenally popular Thanet On Film will get its first ever screening on Thursday January 13th.

Thanet On Film, which broke box office records when it was screened in Broadstairs last year, is giving Ramsgate the big screen treatment in response to popular request, according to the film’s producer Christine Tongue.

“Over the last twelve months, many, many people from Ramsgate have asked that us to show the film in the town” Christine said, “But we waited to do it until we had time to put together a special Ramsgate edition , something that would really push buttons for local people.”

“The film now includes extra vintage footage from the 1920s, 50s and 70s, as well as more recent times. There are lots of nostalgic shots of the beach, the attractions and the summer crowds. Overall it gives a fascinating impression of how Ramsgate has changed since its holiday heyday,” Christine added.

A special feature of the film is an item on Ramsgate seafront and the old Pleasurama site. Christine said: “The film tells the long saga of big promises and prolonged dereliction which has bedevilled Ramsgate seafront for so many years now.

“It’s an absolute scandal what’s happened to the seafront – and the film will, I’m sure, raise strong emotions.”

Another aspect of the film of special interest to people in Ramsgate is an extended item on Manston airport. “Few things have sparked greater debate in the town than the airport and the film provides an important perspective on this bitter, on-going controversy.”

The film also includes interviews with Thanet Council leader Bob Bayford, local MP, Laura Sandys, and items on “hot” issues in Thanet, such as China Gateway, Thanet Earth, the regeneration of Dreamland and the Turner Gallery.

The film will be screened at 7.30pm on Thursday, January 13th at the Granville Cinema, Victoria Parade, Ramsgate. Booking is advisable – ring 01843 591750.
