London, December 4, 2013. Thanet Super-8 feature film Donovan Slacks has been released today on DVD.

Set in 1920s England, Donovan Slacks tells the story of a sea bathing hospital patient who leads a fishermen’s uprising against the government.

This unique love story was shot half as a silent film, half as a ‘talkie’ and was the last feature to be shot on Kodachrome 40, the iconic Super-8 film stock, before it was discontinued.

For Thanet-raised director, Kivmars Bowling, the format’s demise suited the story perfectly:
“Donovan Slacks pays the ultimate price for daring to speak out but he lives defiantly to the last. It’s fitting that even the very film stock met a similarly sad end – but that it had a last chance to shine so brightly in this film."
An Official Selection of Sofia International Film Festival and Bucharest International Film Festival among others, this festival favourite has received much praise for its distinctive tone and story:

"WHOLLY ORIGINAL YET PERFECTLY AUTHENTIC, A REALLY GREAT FILM FOR TRUE FILM LOVERS" - Arizona International Film Festival

"A SURPRISING AND INNOVATIVE FILM OF THE HIGHEST ARTISTIC QUALITY" - Uruguay International Film Festival

"A UNIQUE AND SPECIAL QUALITY THAT MOST FILMMAKERS THESE DAYS ARE AFRAID TO APPROACH" - Anchorage International Film Festival

Donovan Slacks received funding from Screen South and the UK Film Council.

It was shot on various locations around Thanet as well as New York City.
