THANET'S SCRUTINY COMMITTEE RECOMMENDS BALLOT

Thanet Council’s Scrutiny Committee today recommended that a full ballot of all tenants and Leaseholders takes place before any decision is taken to create a separate arms length Housing Management organisation in conjunction with other East Kent Councils.

Following a lengthy debate with contributions from Tenants Representatives Labour’s Cllr Mike Harrison successfully moved an amendment to the proposition calling for the vote.

After the meeting Cllr Harrison said “ Along with Tenants Representatives and others I have been calling for this ballot from the beginning. Other recommendations for ballots from East Kent Scrutiny have been ignored or changed but I hope that Thanet Council’s Cabinet will do the right thing by its Tenants and Leaseholders and allow the ballot before any far reaching decisions are finally taken. This will drastically change the way that housing services are delivered in East Kent and it is right that everyone affected is involved.”

ENDS.
