YOUNG PEOPLE GET ACTIVE, NOT BORED!

Nearly 500 young people have taken part in the first two weeks summer holiday activities, organized by Thanet District Council’s Sport 4 NRG.

In the summer holidays so far, Sport 4 NRG has held weekly beach volleyball & beach football sessions on Ramsgate, Broadstairs and Margate beach, along with a range of other outdoor activities for boys and girls including, basketball and football tournaments, rounders, baseball and surfing, sailing and kayaking! And of course, the now famous inflatable football pitch!

There are also “plan B” sessions organised in case of the typical great British wet summer, which includes swimming and ten-pin bowling.

This council funded initiative aims to provide diversionary sporting opportunities for young people aged 11 – 17 to keep them active, occupied and off the streets. The activities are also part of the Engage programme of summer fun for young people, put together by the Thanet Community Safety Partnership, who are working to make Thanet a safer place to live and work.

James Gregory, head of sport 4 NRG said: “We know that the summer holidays can be the time when young people get bored very easily, but this summer has been very different, with at least one sports activity happening every day across Thanet for them. Sport 4 NRG has been a vital part of that and has been doing a great job of helping to keep young people both occupied and entertained, while at the same time, introducing them to a wide range of sporting activities.”
