LOCAL SHOWGIRLS NEEDED FOR HEADLESS ILLUSIONS

If you’ve ever wanted to be a Headless Lady, a Girl in a Goldfish Bowl or even a Miss Electra now is the time to start your showgirl career as part of Thanet District Council’s Dippers and Dunkers Festival, running from 17 – 19 August in Margate.

As part of the festival, Sideshow Illusions are looking for three local girls who will be paid to become legless, headless and maybe even get wet as part of the illusions taking place on Saturday 21 and Sunday 22 August.

Sideshow Illusions are re-creating five original Sideshows from the 1950’s and 60’s as part of the festival. The shows were originally created by Yorkshire showman, the late, Jon Gresham and first seen at Dreamland.

Jon Marshall, of Sideshow Illusions who discovered the shows and restored them said: “We’d love to hear from anyone who has memories of seeing the sideshows at Dreamland as many local ladies would have been employed, and some may still be around. It’s also a chance for a new generation to see them and it’s great that these original shows are coming back to Margate.

The shows have been in storage since 1969 and the presentation for Dippers and Dunkers Festival is a premiere, the first time they have ever been seen outside for fifty years.

If there are any ladies interested contact Heather Sawney on 01843 577428 or Jon Marshall of Sideshow Illusions 07785260038. An interview will be arranged in Margate – the showgirls must be over 18 and a size 10 – 12, as the costumes have already been made. And, of course, all volunteers will be sworn to secrecy as to how the illusions are achieved!
