Gold for Thanet Visitor Information Service

Thanet’s Visitor Information Centre has been awarded gold for being Tourist Information Service of the Year.


This award recognises businesses and destinations across the tourism industry for their exceptional levels of customer service and dedication to raising standards.


Thanet Visitor Information Service, located in Droit House, Margate (serving Margate, Broadstairs and Ramsgate), has been a runner up in this category for the past three years. It received Highly Commended in 2009, Silver in 2010 and Silver and Highly Commended in 2011 - Highly Commended being for Customer Service.

Heart FM radio presenter, Toby Anstis hosted the Beautiful South Awards, which was held on Wednesday 28 November at Denbies Wine Estate, Surrey.
A large number of tourism businesses including pubs, tourist attractions and accommodation providers in the South of England waited on tender hooks, listening for their names to be called to receive an award on stage.

Nell Barrington, who organised the application and judging process on behalf of Tourism South East said: “Visiting the Information Centre certainly made me want to visit Thanet”.
She continued: “The staff have excellent relationships with local businesses, they even know some of the hoteliers by name. In my opinion, they were very professional”.

The Visitor Information team includes, Lisa Powell, Pat Axton, Lisa Harper, Fran Sayer-Doyle, Jan Wheatley, Joanne Imhoff and is managed by Paula Harbidge.

Lisa Powell, Visitor Services Assistant said: “It was really nice to have some recognition for all of our hard work and customer service. We’re all really proud and look forward to going through to the national Visit England Awards for Excellence next year”.

Thanet District Council’s Cabinet Member for Community Services, Councillor, Iris Johnston said: “The staff in the Visitor Information Centre should be thrilled and so proud of this acknowledgement. Receiving gold in this category goes to show the excellent level of service visitors in Thanet can expect.
“As well as the fantastic service provided by our team at the Droit House I’m also very grateful to the dedication and commitment of our volunteers in Broadstairs and Ramsgate. Providing this outreach service and support ensures we deliver an effective and efficient Visitor Information service across the whole of the district”.

The Visitor Information Centre is open all year round. Opening hours are Tuesday to Sunday 10am-5pm, during October to March and open seven days a week between April and September. The staff are on hand to answer all of your questions and queries about the range of activities to help plan your trips around Thanet, as well as selling a range of gifts and souvenirs.
