A SPORTING HALF-TERM IN THANET

Local young people have plenty of opportunity to keep fit over the October half-term, thanks to a super sporting schedule organised by Thanet District Council’s Sport 4 NRG team.
All events are aimed at girls and boys aged from 10 to 17 years old, and feature a mixture of activities that are guaranteed to banish boredom.
The week starts on Saturday 27 October with ‘Wet n’ Wild’ at Ramsgate Pool from 1 to 2pm, which offers 20 free places for children to have fun with water-based activities.
On Monday 29 October Street Football and Street Golf is on offer at Dame Janet School, Ramsgate from 6pm to 7pm. On Tuesday 30 October a five-a-side ‘Kick Racism out of Football’ event is taking place at Margate FC from 11am to 4pm.
And Wednesday 31 October is ‘Futsal Day’ at Hartsdown Leisure Centre, from 12.30 to 3.30pm. Futsal is a type of football specifically designed for inside arenas.
Meanwhile, also on 31 October, Ramsgate Sports Centre will be holding a basketball session from 5.30 to 6.30 pm. The same day will also see boxing training at Millmead Hall, Margate from 5pm to 6pm and Street Dance at Hartsdown Leisure Centre from 2.30 to 4.30pm.
On Thursday 1 November, handball sessions will be held at Margate FC from 3 to 5pm. Also on Thursday 1 November, there will be an ‘Engage Club Night’ at Concord Youth Club, Ramsgate from 7pm to 10pm.  Activities will include football and pool with an added musical twist featuring DJ/MC battles.
And finishing the week, on Friday 2 November, Bugsy’s Tenpin Bowling Centre in Cliftonville will be hosting a bowling session from 4pm to 6pm.
Council Sport and Leisure Officer, James Gregory, said: “With so many sporting activities taking place in Thanet over the October half-term, there’ll be no reason for young people to be bored. There really is something for everyone, and plenty of opportunity for young people to try out a totally new sport.”
He added: “Girls are as welcome as boys at all the sessions, which offer a great opportunity to build confidence and develop new interests.”
