New planning applications,

The TDC planning website is one of the most bizarre websites I have ever come across in as much as the web addresses of the pages on it change after a few hours so you can’t publish links to them. If you want to look at any of the applications you need to go to the site and enter the application reference in the search box, this link takes you to the site http://www.ukplanning.com/thanet   


I also apologise for not publishing these for a while, due to being able to make the planing site search properly.

APPLY NOW FOR EVENTS SPONSORSHIP

Community and voluntary groups across Thanet can now apply for sponsorship for events they are planning to hold.

Broadstairs, Margate and Ramsgate are each receiving £30,000 funding for events in their town from Thanet District Council, with community and voluntary groups able to bid for another £25,000.

Successful bids for sponsorship will need to show how they meet a series of criteria, including how they will meet the needs of the community and how they link to either sport, health, well-being, culture, arts, music or Thanet’s heritage.

If you are planning an event in Broadstairs and St. Peters or in Ramsgate, event organisers need to speak to their town council. Thanet District Council is now accepting applications for events in Margate, Westgate, Birchington and the villages and these application forms are now available through the council’s website at www.thanet.gov.uk

All events, wherever they are being staged in Thanet, will also need to go through the council’s land hire procedure. More details about this can be found on the council’s website. All land hire requests need to be made to the council, along with a complete risk assessment. The council wants event organisers to start this process 18 weeks before an event takes place.

Cllr. Iris Johnston, Cabinet Member for Community Services, said: “Events are a vital part of Thanet, helping to attract thousands of visitors into the area each year and also providing a wide variety of activities for our residents. As this is taxpayers’ money, we need to be sure that we are using it in the best possible way, which is why we’re asking organisers filling in forms for the council to explain to us how their event is going to benefit the area.”

The deadline for applications for all events across Thanet is 5.30 pm on Friday 27 April.

All the bids received by the council will then assessed by a cross party panel of councillors, advised by council officers, who will make the final decision on how to allocate the money.

BOXING CHAMPION VISITS SPORT 4 NRG PROJECT

An English boxing champion has been inspiring pupils in Ramsgate as part of the council’s Sport 4 NRG programme.

Sammy Holloway, who’s the Queensbury Middleweight English Champion, visited one of the scheme’s boxing sessions with the Northwood Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) to help inspire potential boxing champions of the future.

Sport 4 NRG delivers non-contact boxing and fitness training to the young people of Northwood PRU. Pupils from Northwood are excluded from mainstream school, so extra training to help develop discipline, coordination, behaviour and respect are paramount to their development.

Richard Knott, Physical Activity Coordinator at Northwood, said: "The lads have really loved the boxing training that they've been doing with the Sport 4 NRG coaches Jay and Andy. It's getting them fit for the summer at the same time as developing their boxing skills. Since the boxing training has started, we have seen a notable difference in their attitudes and behaviour and to have Sammy bring his belt down is fantastic for them!"

Sammy Holloway said: “I think it’s fantastic that these lads get the opportunity to take part in boxing training at school. We would rather them be boxing in these fun, controlled environments, rather than the playground, so if we can pass that message on to them, then we’re doing a good thing. Boxing is about working hard, discipline, defending yourself and showing controlled aggression and respect for your opponent. These values can then be transferred to other walks of life”.

Sport 4 NRG also runs a boxing training session in the evening, on a Wednesday night at Millmead Hall from 5.00pm to 6.00 pm for 11 to 15 year olds, and from 6.00 pm to 7.00 pm for those over 16. For more information, visit www.thanet.gov.uk/sport
