The TDC planning website is one of the most bizarre websites I have ever come across in as much as the web addresses of the pages on it change after a few hours so you can’t publish links to them. If you want to look at any of the applications you need to go to the site and enter the application reference in the search box, this link takes you to the site http://www.ukplanning.com/thanet

The PM launching an East Kent Success Story


I was very pleased that the Prime Minister came to open London Array. The largest wind farm in the world has been a great opportunity for local jobs and growth, and into the future the world’s largest wind farm will prove an even greater employment asset to Ramsgate and Thanet. During its construction, over 1,000 people worked on the site, which equates to an average of 300,000 man hours. Today there are over 90 local people directly employed with small businesses in the area greatly benefiting from the engineering renaissance of Ramsgate Port. Companies as well known as Siemens are now located in the port and jobs and apprenticeships are benefiting young people across East Kent.
We are thrilled that Ramsgate is now the port of choice for the Operations and Maintenance for London Array, we are looking to establish Ramsgate as the ‘Aberdeen of Wind.’ This is a real opportunity for regeneration. And Ramsgate has greatly benefited from the investment already, with direct work for fisherman, construction workers, engineers and75 local companies. In addition hotels, restaurants and bars have all done well.
The partnership between world leading renewable energy companies such as Dong, E.ON and Masdar puts Ramsgate and Thanet on the map for energy generation and cutting edge offshore technologies. London Array has the opportunity to lead the way in helping to reduce the cost of building future offshore wind farms, and inspiring further development across the country.  In addition we are also now attracting other related renewable businesses to the area from coppice harvesters through to renewable heat operators. It is an exciting time to be at the forefront of this sector. 
There are those who are concerned about the cost of off short wind. Today we are paying £9 per household for offshore wind out of a bill of £1300. This is a very negligible amount in comparison to having to “hedge” our energy consumption from international geo-politics.
London Array will open up a new sector to so many people, including schools who will now be inspired to consider jobs in the industry and learn more about renewables, energy and engineering. More apprenticeships will be created, as well as jobs in transport, engineering and logistics. This is an extremely exciting time for East Kent and I am very proud of what we have achieved for the local area through London Array.

Local Plan public consultation underway

There’s still time to get involved in a public consultation which will help to set out how Thanet will be developed up to 2031.
The council is creating a new Local Plan for the area and is encouraging anyone with a view about the future development of Thanet to get involved, before the consultation closes on Wednesday 14 August 2013.
The new Local Plan will set out how much new housing should be provided and where, the growth of the economy and how many jobs are likely to develop, local infrastructure, community facilities and the future role of Westwood and the coastal town centres. It will also identify what land should be protected from development such as our parks and open spaces.

The Local Plan will be the council’s overarching planning policy document covering the whole district up to 2031, and will be used to determine planning applications.
The council has spoken with almost 200 local people at a series of drop-in events held at key public places across the district. These sessions provided members of the public with the chance to find out more about the Local Plan and to speak with officers from the Planning team.
The council will also be contacting a random sample of 1,000 Thanet residents to promote the consultation. They will also be invited to participate in a focus group session to put forward their suggestions for how they think Thanet should develop in the future.
This is the first of three stages of consultation, before the council adopts a new Local Plan in 2015.
To develop a new Local Plan the council has to consider very detailed evidence, which is examined by an inspector.
The council is keen to ensure that members of the public are provided with all of the relevant information to inform their consultation responses. This means that the consultation document is very detailed.

Thanet District Council secures Regional Growth Fund to support local creative businesses

Thanet District Council will share part of a Regional Growth Fund grant from Central Government to help support small and medium sized creative businesses in the district.
The money, which has been secured following a joint application from Thanet, Hastings and Tendring councils, is part of the government’s Regional Growth Fund (RGF) which is set up to help attract significant private sector investment and to create jobs.
The joint bid was for the SUCCESS Programme (South East Urban Coastal Creative Enterprise Support Scheme) and aims to achieve a step-change and encourage growth in the creative and cultural industries in key areas along the South East Local Enterprise Partnership coastline.
The SUCCESS programme will provide financial support for small and medium creative businesses across Thanet. It will be targeted at creative businesses looking to locate or expand in Thanet, aiming to encourage the growth of this sector and enabling jobs to be created.
The detail of the funding programme, including the criteria for businesses looking to apply is now to be discussed with the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS).
Once agreed, the council will publicise the details widely to ensure as many businesses as possible have a chance to bid for a share of the funding.
Leader of Thanet District Council, Cllr. Clive Hart, said: “This is fantastic news for Thanet. The application will have gone through a very competitive process so to be awarded this funding is really positive for creative businesses in the area.
“The council’s Corporate Plan clearly sets our ambition to create new jobs in the district and our emerging Economic Growth and Regeneration Strategy highlights culture as a key part of this.
“Securing this funding also continues to build on our desire to grow the local economy and support the creative sector which is starting to thrive locally.
“We will publicise the details of how to apply widely once agreed and look forward to seeing businesses in Thanet successfully accessing this funding.”

Council approves radical changes to Thanet Housing Register

Thanet District Council has approved a new Allocation Policy which proposes dramatic changes to the way the council allocates social housing in the district.
It is hoped that the changes, which introduce a much tighter set of criteria for those seeking housing in Thanet, will ensure that those in the most housing need are supported and prioritised appropriately.
At a meeting last night (Thursday 11 July) Council members agreed to nine key changes:
  • Closing the housing register to households outside of the Thanet district;
  • Introducing a residency criteria – which means that those looking to apply for housing must have lived in Thanet for a minimum period of three years;
  • Introducing tighter guidelines when assessing unacceptable behaviour – this would consider exclusion from the housing register for those who have been guilty of rent arrears, breach of tenancy agreements, causing a nuisance to neighbours etc;
  • Providing additional bedrooms for families with two children of the opposite sex where the eldest is over ten years in line with Housing Benefit criteria (at present this is over eight years old);
  • Introducing tighter guidelines on additional bedroom requests for carers;
  • Re-categorising the priority housing bands to ensure those most in need are prioritised;
  • Prioritising Armed Forces personnel;
  • Introducing tighter guidelines on dealing with households who owe current or former tenancy debts;
  • Providing new clarification on income, savings and assets – which will introduce a cap on assets and savings to the value of £16,000 and will exclude applicants where any member of the household is earning a salary which places them in the higher-rate tax bracket.
The decision to adopt this new stricter housing policy for Thanet follows a five week public consultation held in February this year. 178 responses were received with the overwhelming majority supporting the council’s proposals.
The changes to the policy will come into effect from 1 September 2013. From this date, everyone looking to apply for social housing will need to meet the council’s new stricter criteria.
Registration for housing will move online from this date to ensure that customers can apply 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Existing applicants on the housing register will also need to re-apply online. The Housing Options team will be working hard to support local people through this transition.
Cabinet Member for Housing, Cllr David Green, said: “With nearly 6,500 households on the housing register in Thanet, and insufficient housing to offer, we clearly needed to take radical action. Tightening up the criteria to apply for housing and re-categorising the housing bands will ensure that we prioritise the people who most need our help and manage our housing stock more effectively.

“The new allocation policy provides us with the tools to ensure that those that have other housing options available to them are not taking advantage of a system which is in place to help those who most need it. We will be doing all we can to ensure that new and existing customers are aware of the changes and to help them through this transition.
"Tackling the area's housing needs is a major priority for the council. We have a number of proposals to do this, but first we must ensure that our housing waiting list truly represents the housing need amongst local Thanet residents."

Improved Recycling Service Coming to Thanet

Thanet District Council is improving its recycling collection service and will be sending leaflets to all residents this month to introduce the ‘Let’s Sort it Out, Together’ enhanced service.
Due to launch in the autumn, residents will be offered more recycling opportunities which will also help Thanet to meet Government targets. 
The improvements are part of a project involving the East Kent Partnership (Dover, Shepway, Canterbury and Thanet Councils) to save money collectively as part of Kent County Council’s commitment to increase recycling across the county. 
Recyclable materials are a reusable resource and as such can be sold or treated to create new products or energy streams. It is anticipated that Thanet District Council’s recycling rate, currently at 26%, will increase to at least 50% delivering significant savings to the taxpayer across the East Kent Partnership. 
A leaflet will be delivered to all residents from Friday 12th July, letting people know when the improved service will happen and what will be available. Pictures will show clearly what recycling bins, bags or boxes they will have and exactly what to put in them. 
Some residents will see the improvements come into effect from early September as an ‘first phase’ group and will be contacted directly to inform them of this, but most people will  receive the  improved service from early November.  
One of the main improvements will be the separate collection of food waste, which is then sent to an anaerobic digester, producing both high quality compost and methane – which can be used to generate electricity. 
Thanet District Council will give people all of the information they need ahead of the launch of the improved service. Road shows will be held across the district, information will be put through doors, published in local papers and made available on the council’s website on special pages to make it easy to find, plus an automated phone line will also be operated. 
Cabinet Member for Operational Services, Cllr. Alan Poole said: “The benefits of these improved services to residents and our local environment will be significant. We all have a responsibility to maintain our environment and the savings made from increasing recycling in Thanet will enable the council to continue to provide residents with a comprehensive service. 
“We realise that the improved service may take a bit of getting used to but we hope that residents will support the improvements and help us to Sort It Out, Together.”

Healthy Living event at Broadstairs Library

The Healthy Living Event is coming back to Broadstairs Library on Wednesday 17 July.  Thanet residents seeking to improve their health and wellbeing are invited to visit the Library, where the NHS Health Trainers team will be on hand to offer advice.
Open from 10am to 2pm, The ‘Healthy Living Event’ day is the latest in a number of events which started a few years ago with the ‘New Year New You’ event which was held at Thanet’s Gateway Plus in Margate. This is the second healthy living event to take place in the Summer to encourage people that the New Year is not the only time to make a resolution to get fit and healthy.
The Summer is a good time to get out and about and Health Trainers along with a number of other groups will be happy to offer support and give information to people who want to make a change.  The event is open to everyone and a variety of health advisors will be on hand for help and advice.
Attendees at the event will include: Adult Education, Clinical Commissioning Group, Disability Drop in Centre, Health Trainers, KCA, Skillnet Group, Kent Supported Employment and National Careers Service.
Local people who attend will be able to receive advice and further access to support on an array of subjects, including emotional wellbeing, exercise and healthy eating, sexual health and smoking cessation.
There is no need to book an appointment – those who attend can simply pop in. But if the day isn’t convenient, it’s possible to book an appointment to speak to a Health Trainer at a later date.
Gateway’s Front of House Co-ordinator, Matthew Munson, said: “These events are always well attended and people get a lot out of meeting the various health professionals. Sometimes it just needs someone to get the right advice to make a positive lifestyle change. We understand that people will not all leave us on Wednesday ready to sign up to the gym, or give up smoking, but they may have been given the advice to make them want to make a change which is great. Ultimately we want to encourage people to make positive changes to their health and to consider doing something new, perhaps volunteering, walking, working or keeping fit.”

Sir Roger Gale supports calls to increase awareness of skin cancer caused by sun exposure



MPs this week met with cancer charities and clinical experts in the House of Commons to discuss a new initiative to help increase the prevention and early detection of skin conditions, including cancer, caused by long-term sun exposure. The new awareness initiative is being led by Skcin – the UK's only skin cancer specific charity with national status – working in partnership with LEO Pharma.

Approximately 13 million people or 24 per cent of the population in England and Wales are affected by some form of skin disease1. In fact, skin cancer is the now most common form of cancer in the UK2, with more cases diagnosed each year than breast and lung cancers combined2.

With skin cancer rates having quadrupled over the last 30 years2, addressing and preventing the cumulative effects of long-term sun exposure will be crucial if we are to avoid a skin cancer ‘time bomb’ in the years to come.  

In particular, measures to prevent the development of non-melanoma skin cancer (NMSC) and actinic keratosis (AK) – a pre-malignant skin condition caused by sun damage with the potential to develop into skin cancer – were discussed during the meeting and will be a key focus of the new campaign.

Anyone can have sun damaged skin. It is important to look out for ALL skin changes, not just in moles, that might be markers for skin cancer or an increased risk of getting skin cancer. Checking your skin regularly means any potential problems are more likely to be found and treated at an early stage.  For further information on how to check your skin go to: www.checkskinchanges.com 

Pledging their support for the new campaign, Sir Roger said: “Skin cancer is the most common form of cancer, but also one of the most preventable. As we head into the summer months, this timely new initiative will help raise awareness with the public to ensure that they take simple, yet crucial measures, to help minimise skin damage caused by over-exposure to the sun.”

Thanet District Council would like to congratulate Andy Murray for his win at Wimbledon this year.  Now that the good weather has arrived and encouraged by Andy’s win, we hope that everyone who has been inspired by Wimbledon will use the local tennis facilities in Thanet.

PEOPLE’S ASSEMBLY IN THANET BEGINS CAMPAIGN TO SAVE WELFARE STATE


The first meeting of the national People’s Assembly Against Austerity in Kent took place last week (Thursday July 4) in Broadstairs.

Over 140 people attended the meeting which was addressed by national figures in the People’s Assembly movement, including Jeremy Corbyn MP and Natalie Bennett, leader of the Green Party.

The speakers declared their opposition to cuts in public services and warned of the growing privatisation of the National Health Service.

One of the organisers of the meeting, Christine Tongue of Anti Cuts Thanet, said:  “Britain’s public services are under attack like they never have before. Now everyone must come together to fight back. This meeting marks the beginning of that fight back.”

“The cuts are justified in terms of the financial deficit, but this is nonsense. The government is using the financial crisis as an excuse to push through policies they wanted to adopt anyway. 

“The Welfare State was founded in 1945 when Britain was bankrupt after the war. People knew it was needed then and it’s still needed today.”

The meeting voted overwhelmingly to support a national demonstration to protect the NHS.

PEOPLE’S ASSEMBLY IN THANET BEGINS CAMPAIGN TO SAVE WELFARE STATE


The first meeting of the national People’s Assembly Against Austerity in Kent took place last week (Thursday July 4) in Broadstairs.

Over 140 people attended the meeting which was addressed by national figures in the People’s Assembly movement, including Jeremy Corbyn MP and Natalie Bennett, leader of the Green Party.

The speakers declared their opposition to cuts in public services and warned of the growing privatisation of the National Health Service.

One of the organisers of the meeting, Christine Tongue of Anti Cuts Thanet, said:  “Britain’s public services are under attack like they never have before. Now everyone must come together to fight back. This meeting marks the beginning of that fight back.”

“The cuts are justified in terms of the financial deficit, but this is nonsense. The government is using the financial crisis as an excuse to push through policies they wanted to adopt anyway. 

“The Welfare State was founded in 1945 when Britain was bankrupt after the war. People knew it was needed then and it’s still needed today.”

The meeting voted overwhelmingly to support a national demonstration to protect the NHS.

The Conservative European Referendum Bill - show support!


I, along with my Conservative colleagues, are very pleased to be co-sponsoring and fully supporting the Conservative European Referendum Bill, which will allow the British people to decide whether they believe the UK should be a member of the EU or not.
 
The vast majority of the British people have never had a say on EU membership. For such a significant matter, this cannot be right so I am extremely proud to be a member of a Party that is giving you a say on Europe. 
 
As a former Chairman of openDemocracy I have been very involved with advocating referenda. I have always sought to ensure that the people have a voice and that their views are respected; a referendum on Britain’s membership of the EU would allow the public’s views to be heard and acted upon.
 
The Conservatives also plan to significantly change our current arrangements with Europe. Quite frankly, the status quo could not continue. The Labour Party was too quick to surrender parts of our rebate and always too slow to stand up for British interests in Brussels. 
 
We are already reversing this legacy. The Prime Minister has already
·         been the first Prime Minister to veto an EU resolution
·         secured the first ever reduction in the EU budget
·         achieved fundamental reforms to the fishing policy, ensuring an end to discards for Thanet’s fisherman.
We are going further and opening negotiations in order to roll back areas of European influence that have been left unchecked for too long. David Cameron will create a new European settlement that will be less focused on red tape and unnecessary bureaucracy, and more on trade, investment and jobs for Britain. It is this new relationship with the EU that the Conservatives will ask the country to accept or reject in a popular vote.

I hope that this assures you that this Government and I are committed to giving the public the opportunity to voice their opinion on our membership of the EU. If you have any questions about this very important matter, please do not hesitate to be in touch.

Kent Green Party Opposes Closure of KCC Childrens Centres

Thanet Green Party Councillor, Ian Driver,  has condemned KCCs  plans to close 23 of Kent’s 97 Children's Centres and reduce the opening hours of another 13 including the Garlinge, Callis Grange and Birchington centres in Thanet who will have their opening times slashed by half.
Driver said  “Kents Children’s centres have played a vitally important support role for families across the county. They pioneered an integrated approach to service delivery, bringing together under one roof,  health, social care, advice and education which  helped our  youngsters  get off to the best possible start in life. To cut this vital  service on a such a massive scale will cause serious hardship for thousands of children and their families. If ever there was an ill-conceived  false economy this must it!.”
Driver added  "The Kent Green Party will be  campaigning against these cuts and Martin Whybrow  our Green Party KCC councillor for Hythe will doing all he can to stop the plans. We appeal to Kent people  to lobby their County Councillors to vote against the plan. We also encourage people to take part in  KCCs online consultation at

and express their opposition to these plans

Thanet  Council “Ferrygate” scandal. Councillors demand Independent investigation.
A group of Green Party and Independent councillors have submitted a motion to the 11 July  meeting of Thanet District Council (TDC) , demanding  an independent investigation into how TDC struck a top-secret deal with, now insolvent,  Transeuropa Ferries (TEF) which allowed the company to run up “eye-watering” debts over a  5 year period.
TEF went into receivership in April owing TDC £3.4 million. The be-leagured Council is  now being forced to raid its reserves and under-spends to make good the massive hole in its 2013-13 budget.
Mover of the motion and Green Party Councillor said “this is the  worst example of local government financial mismanagement I have ever encountered.  A small group of very senior managers and politicians of both the Labour and Tory Parties, struck a  top-secret deal with a failing  ferry company. They  deliberately manipulated the Council’s constitution to hide the truth about this deal from the majority of elected Councillors and the public”.
“Top council bosses and politicians thought it was acceptable to recklessly  gamble with taxpayers money. The gamble totally failed and ultimately the voters of Thanet will have to pay for this ill-conceived plan through increases to their council and reductions I council services”.
“I have been trying over the past few weeks to find out more about what has happened byt the Council has refused to let me see the secret documents it is holding. There should now therefore be independent enquiry which will look at what has happened over the past 3 years and name and shame those people who are responsible for this disaster.
The meeting to discuss the motion will be taking place on 11th July 7pm at Thanet Council offices Cecil Square
The motion to the Council reads
This Council agrees to establish an enquiry into how Transeuropa Ferries (TEF) was allowed to run up a debt estimated to be  £3.4 million to Thanet District Council.
This enquiry will review the legal, constitutional, accounting and ethical issues relating to the management this debt. It will report back on any inappropriate actions and make recommendations on how best to manage similar situations in the future.
Because the decision to extend credit and allow  TEF to run up debt was made at the highest  managerial and political level, this enquiry must be conducted by a suitably qualified person who is totally independent of the Council.
The results of this enquiry must be made public”.

Destination Management Plan for Thanet - First in Kent!

Showcasing Thanet’s unique beaches, attracting more investment and creating additional attractions and accommodation are all part of what Thanet District Council hopes will be achieved following the development of a new Destination Management Plan for Thanet.
The plan, which is the first of its kind in Kent, has been created to help the area achieve its potential as a visitor destination, by working closely with local tourism industry businesses.
Developed in partnership with Visit Kent and overseen by leading destination consultants, Blue Sail, the plan has involved the contribution of almost 100 local businesses through a series of workshop sessions over the past eight months.
The final draft of the plan was shared with tourism industry businesses at an event yesterday (Tuesday 25 June) at Manston Airport, where they were encouraged to sign up to deliver some of the key activities.
The new plan sets out priorities for Thanet over the next five years to help improve the visitor economy and encourage investment into the area.
The priorities focus around, beach management, coastal regeneration and telling our stories.
Some of the specific activities include the creation of a beach management plan to help improve public information about beach cleaning and activities on offer, developing a new toolkit with businesses to help market and promote the area and improving trails and signs around the coast to help create an excellent first impression for visitors.
Cabinet Member for Tourism, Cllr. Iris Johnston, said: “The tourism industry in Thanet is worth £230 million to the local economy. This is a key priority for the area.
“Working together with local businesses and attractions is absolutely essential to maximizing the potential future growth of this industry and attracting millions of new visitors to the area.
“Those familiar with Thanet will know the wealth of stunning natural assets the coastline has to offer, and the great attractions there are to visit.
“The purpose of this plan is to help coordinate all of our efforts to make sure we’re selling Thanet at its absolute best, supporting local businesses who we know work tirelessly to provide attractions, accommodation, eateries and experiences and ultimately doing all we can to ensure we’re creating a unique and exciting experience for our visitors.”
Michele Grant, Director of Blue Sail (Destination Consultants), said: “'A successful destination is one that agrees what is special and distinctive about the place and then uses that to prioritise action. That has been our approach to developing the Thanet DMP. We've involved the industry every step of the way and their commitment and enthusiasm will help ensure the DMP adds value to what is already happening”.
The Destination Management Plan is part of Thanet’s wider Economic Growth and Regeneration Strategy.

Local Plan consultation - public drop-in sessions

Thanet District Council is holding a series of drop-in sessions for members of the public to support its ten week public consultation on the issues and options for a new Local Plan.
Members of the planning team will be available at the following venues to discuss the Local Plan, to help people respond to the consultation and to answer any questions.
There’s no need to confirm or book a place, just turn up on the following days:
  • Tuesday 2nd July - Customs House, Harbour Parade, Ramsgate, 2pm-8pm
  • Thursday 4th July - Thanet’s Gateway Plus, Cecil Street, Margate, 2pm-8pm
  • Tuesday 9th July - Queens Road Baptist Church, Broadstairs, 2pm-8pm
  • Thursday 11th July - Minster Village Hall, Minster, 2pm-8pm
This is the first of three stages of consultation, before the council adopts a new Local Plan in 2015.
The Local Plan will be the council’s overarching planning policy document covering the whole district up to 2031.
It covers how much new housing should be provided and where, the growth of the economy and how many jobs are likely to develop, local infrastructure, community facilities and the future role of Westwood and our coastal town centres.  It also identifies what land should be protected from development such as our parks and open spaces.
To develop a new Local Plan the council has to consider very detailed evidence, which is examined by an inspector.
The council is keen to ensure that members of the public are provided with all of the relevant information to inform their consultation responses. This means that the consultation document is very detailed.

PEOPLE’S ASSEMBLY COMES TO THANET

KEY SPEAKER: Jeremy Corbyn MP
The People’s Assembly Against Austerity movement will hold its first public meeting in Thanet on Thursday July 4.
The movement, which aims to unite all strands in society against the policy of cuts and austerity, has been attracting thousands of followers across the country.
The first meeting of the movement, held in London on June 22, brought together over 4000 people to central London for what the organisers claimed was the biggest anti-austerity conference Britain has so far seen.
Speakers in Thanet will include well-known London MP Jeremy Corbyn, Natalie Bennett, leader of the Green Party, Christine Shawcroft, a member of the Labour Party National Executive Committee, and Candy Udwin of Keep Our NHS Public.
The meeting has been organised by Thanet Trades Union Council, Anti-Cuts Thanet and the Green Party.
Christine Tongue of Anti-Cuts Thanet said:  “This will be an historic meeting for Thanet and east Kent. We will be coming together for the first time to discuss how to defend the welfare state from unnecessary cuts.
“The message of the People’s Assembly movement is clear – we mustn’t accept the myth of austerity – we mustn’t accept that we have to cut our public services and jobs to pay for the mistakes of banks and the finance industry.”
Christine added: “If we don’t act now, we risk surrendering the gains that have improved the lives of the majority of the people in this country for over more than 50 years.”

Ramsgate’s old and new Mayors

On Friday 5 July Thanet District Council’s Sport Matters team will be holding a new local beach volleyball competition, the ‘Beach Volleyball Cup’.  
This will take place on Margate Main Sands starting at 5.30pm until 9.30pm.  It is open to teams of two players of all abilities with a maximum of 10 places in both men’s and woman’s heats. The Beach Volleyball Cup is a knockout competition that will showcase Thanet’s sporting talent as well as offer a fun and challenging activity to participate in.
The winners of the ‘Beach Volleyball Cup’ will then come back to take part in an exhibition match during the Finals of Margate Masters on Sunday 25 August where they will have the experience of playing on a national standard volleyball court in front of a cheering crowd.
It is a great chance to get involved and play a part at this year’s National Beach Volleyball Finals alongside European and UK champions and in front of hundreds of spectators.
Councillor Iris Johnston, Cabinet Member for Community Services, said: “Thanet District Council offers a wide range of sporting opportunities to local people in Thanet.

"As we approach this summer's National Beach Volleyball Finals, which will be the biggest Beach Volleyball competition in the UK this year, the council's Sport and Leisure department is offering local people the opportunity to take part in the Beach Volleyball Cup".
